Concept Development

The interpretive design process begins with an idea. You may already have a concept that needs little refinement or we can work with you to develop a new concept that captures the communication intent of the display. During this initial stage, the preliminary messages and content are identified. A budget range will be selected which will set the framework for the design and materials. The sign or display type, dimensions, and general location is also determined.

Information Collection

Information collection is imperative to the design process and is essentially the ingredients that we will work with to craft the graphic design. We will work closely with you to collect photographs, historical information, stories, or any other relevant information.

Synthesis

During this stage, the collected information will be analyzed and refined. Photograph restoration, mapping, graphic design, and text refinement will occur. Selected information and messages will be edited for relevance and appropriateness for your target audience. Several concepts will be developed and presented to you during this process. We will work with you until a design concept is selected for final development.

Final Design

In final design, the concept will be further refined for production. Final tweaks to graphics, fonts, and layout will occur to the sign or display. Once everything is finalized, an electronic proof will be sent to you for approval. The graphic file is prepared for production use and all necessary information is sent to a chosen sign manufacturer.

Production

We work closely with the sign manufacturer to ensure that the sign or exhibit is correctly developed. During this process, several proofs will be exchanged between the manufacturer and us. Once a proof is approved and is of high quality, the signage, framing, and any mounting structures will be produced and shipped to an address that you provide. The shipment will typically arrive within under a month but may vary.

Installation

Signage placement is paramount for engaging with an audience. Our landscape architect will work with you to help guide the correct placement and installation of the exhibit. Local ordinances, accessibility, and surrounding context are factors that will be studied for determining the best location. Detailed construction drawings can be developed for complex exhibits and landscape improvements.
